The jet stream is forecast to push north through Alaska by late this week,
allowing much warmer air to build over much of the state.
The cooler weather we have been experiencing will transition to several days of abundant sunshine,
well above normal temperatures,
and drier conditions for most areas east of the Alaska Range.
Uncertainty remains as to whether or not the warmer weather will persist through the weekend,
so stay tuned for further updates.

This animation shows the OPC N Pacific surface analyses
with the 50 unique hurricane force low pressure systems
from the 2015/2016 cold weather season.
This season was very active, and this movie also includes the 924 hPa low
from December 2015 which is now one of the strongest extratropical low pressure system
s over the N Pacific on record.
As a reminder, an extratropical/post-tropical low pressure system
is classified as "hurricane force" when the winds are greater than or equal to 64 knots.
This video contains no speech or other audio information necessary for the comprehension of the content.
It is best viewed in HD.
